About me

Hello! My name is Eric McKinney, and I am a web developer and DevOps engineer from Madison, WI.

My journey to this career path wasn't straightforward. I started as a touring musician, landing different gigs around the country. I wound up in Los Angeles hungry for a change when a friend of mine recommended I apply for a coding bootcamp. After months of steep learning curves and banging my head against the wall, things eventually started to click, and I graduated from bootcamp in early 2019. Shortly after, I worked for a local startup creating some really neat scraping and deep linking systems. I had another short stint at a startup based out of Sweden before I made the move to government contracting work in 2022.

My passion is systems and architecture engineering. I believe there is never a new problem that hasn't already been solved — it's just a matter of tweaking and blending things to make them apply to all the different scenarios and variations. I have a passion for dismantling bottlenecks and creating clean, efficient workflows that work well for everyone. That doesn't come without hard work and collaborative problem solving with all sides. I believe everyone's voice needs to be heard, and a diverse range of answers and solutions only strengthens teams that emphasize that open communication. These are some of the core values I bring to any team I'm on — and of course, it's nice to have some fun too :)

When I'm not nerding out on tech stuff, I am usually playing drums, hanging out with my family, doing something outside, or stuck somewhere while I think about nerding out on tech. I have a vast amount of side projects, from home servers to AI detectors, that I enjoy working and tinkering on often. I hope you enjoy the blog! Don't hesitate to reach out or follow me on GitHub or LinkedIn. Thanks!
